The European Plasma Alliance (EPA) is an alliance of 10 European
private sector plasma collectors which operate about 160 centres in Germany, Austria, Czechia, Hungary and the Ukraine. The EPA works towards ensuring safe plasma donation practices, prioritizing donor health and well-being to guarantee patient's access to safe products.

ABOUT US

Ensuring donors’ safety and lifesaving therapies

The EPA’s mission is to promote safe plasma donation practices in Europe with a focus on donor health and donor safety to ensure patients’ access to safe products.

The EPA members currently operate about 160 plasma collection centres in five European countries: Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine. Last year, EPA members contributed around 3 million litres of plasma to manufacture life-saving therapies.

OUR GOALS

Foster safe plasma donation in Europe

An increasing number of patients across Europe are diagnosed with life-threatening plasma protein-related disorders, such as Immune Deficiencies, Hereditary Angioedema (HAE), Alpha 1-Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD), some neurological or bleeding disorders, such as Hemophilia.

Plasma-derived medicinal products are the primary or, in some cases, the only treatment available for these rare diseases. A key element which determines the availability of these products is continuous access to the safe, high-quality starting material, which is human plasma.

Establishing more plasma collection programs

Providing expertise in establishing more dedicated plasmapheresis programs and contribute to global sufficiency of plasma across Europe.

Increase awareness

Increase education and awareness for plasma donation, foster co-existence of public sector and private sector plasma donation centers. Stimulating plasma donations by also allowing compensation of donors for the expenses and inconvenience related to the donation.

Improve donation practices

Coordinated awareness campaigns toward plasma donors. Work with regulators for a solid regulatory environment with focus on donor safety.
